Reason and History
On this blog I have discussed different topics to try and help you readers on your search for truth. The topic on which I write today is very near and dear to me. The topic, the debate in which I present to your eyes is that of Comparing World Religions. I know this topic is delicate to many of you. It makes me laugh because we humans can debate politics and scientific methods but when it comes to Religion we all run to our own corners and plug our ears lest they be invaded by another one's religious ideals.
Fulton J. Sheen once said you can not begin to believe one religion by just starting with faith. His statement makes so much sense. It is kind of funny how so often in this world were suppose believe things but believe them without much thought. That is the ideology where the saying, "Do not believe everything you watch on T.V. " come froms. So when we approach religion we must approach it with reason.
The other pillar we must approach the topic of religion with is History. History gives backing and credibility to the beliefs. One man says God came to him in a dream. How do we know that? Why should we believe him?
All through history men have claimed they have a path, a median between humans and God. Some have gained followers who keep believing through centuries. However out all those major groups that were formed only one man has claimed to be God. That man was Jesus of Nazareth. Sometimes we forget to think of Jesus as a man. For believers such as me I believe he is God and Man. But his divinity and his glory can overshadow his story. His story is well known but when we hear it over and over again we can forget who He really is as a man. It is unbelievable that a man of his status in his culture became known as who he is today. For once let us put ourselves in his shoes, In his circumstances. We talk about our ''privileges'' our disadvantages today. Jesus was born into poverty. His people were second class citizens if you could even call them citizens. Jesus labored for years as a carpenter. That is nowhere near a glorified job especially in early A.D. Somewhere out of that Jesus became the most famous preacher of all time. And if we are to believe in his Resurrection we truly see this man was and is a God. How profound and how insane is that? A simple poor man beat the odds against him and ultimately suffered death for his fame and message. Talk about empowerment today, Jesus of Nazareth is empowering to us. Even if you question his divinity, his life in of itself is empowering.
